A video has emerged of a prophecy that predicted the passing of late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, who died on Thursday, July 25.
Iwuanyawu died at 82 in Abuja, Nigeria, after an undisclosed brief illness. Until his death, he was the de facto leader of the Igbo ethnic tribe worldwide by virtue of being the President General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo.
The prophecy made on May 8, 2024, by Rev E.S. Emeka of the Throne of Eliyah’s Ministry International church has since gone viral. The church cleric pointedly prophesied that “A man that represents the Igbos will go down in sickness, and it will end up his life.”
The prophecy which took place in a church setting framed Chief Iwuanyawu’s death as a martyrdom for his obstinate defense of Igbo interests.
Iwuanywu was elected president-general just a little over a year ago in April 2023, shortly after the demise of the late PG, Ambassador George Obiozor who died in November 2022.
Rev Emeka directed his congregation to pray earnestly to avert the imminent disaster because according to him Iwuanywau’s “Life is at risk.” He said it was not God’s time for the man to die, but “there is a spiritual and physical threat against the man from the enemies of Igbos because he stands for the Igbos.”
The prophet narrated, however, that some of the enemies at work in Iwuanyawu’s life were also “the same people he is fighting for conniving with the enemies of Igbos”.
He however did not mention the names of the internal enemies.
Worryingly, Rev. Emeka ended by remarking, “For Iwuanyawu to die will hurt you and I”, then ended the session on a positive note of faith; “But by the special grace of God, God of vengeance will fight for him. God of vengeance will fight for his life, and he shall live in Jesus name”.
Chief Iwuanyawu died exactly 78 days after the prophecy, and it is uncertain if the deceased or his family were made aware of such profound utterance.
In the statement from the family notifying of Chief Iwuanyawu’s death, there was no disclosure regarding the nature of the ailment he suffered or for how long.
A Life Of Service
But Iwuanyawu was a dogged defender of Igbo rights, appearing on national television often to bemoan the alleged marginalization of the South East region. He also made spirited efforts to right the perverted historical narrative which tended to blame the region as a whole for the series of political events that culminated in the bloody three-year Nigeria-Biafran civil war.
Iwuanyawu was a young army officer on the Biafran side.
He also boisterously defended the Igbos when they alleged their homes and investments were been unfairly targeted in Lagos State, where Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu once was governor.
Since his passing, there has been an outpouring of condolences to his family. In a tribute, the governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah described Iwuanyawu as “an icon, a national colossus, and an absolute patriot, who gave his all for the peace and progress of Ndigbo and Nigeria”.
But presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale said President Bola Tinubu condoled with his family and Imo State, only saying he left “a remarkable legacy”.
The deceased family promised further updates regarding the funeral of the fallen leader.
