The opening ceremony at the Paris 2024 Olympics Games will be a unique event. The games will hold in the French capital city of Paris for one sizzling month, starting Friday July 26 – August 25th, just four days from today.

The opening ceremony will be a departure from the past which usually was held in a stadium but this time will take place on Paris’ famous River Seine, a 6km route that begins at the Austerlitz bridge and ends among the gardens, fountains, and palaces in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower at Trocadero.

Nearly 100 boats carrying over 10,000 athletes and dignitaries will sail past iconic landmarks, including Notre Dame Cathedral and Pont Neuf. The boats will transport the athletes in the parade and showcase the history and culture of France, and Paris in particular.

The identity of the performers, shrouded in secrecy, is a source of great anticipation. Thousands of people are expected to line the river and streets, with millions more watching on television around the world. Thomas Jolly, the French actor and theatre director named as the ceremony’s artistic director, aims to show France in all its diversity, illustrating the richness and plurality shaped by its history.

The promising spectacular Paris 2024 Olympic Summer Games

France’s President Emmanuel Macron will also conduct the official Games opening and light the Olympic cauldron.

The opening ceremony will begin at 19:30 local time (18:30 BST) on Friday, 26 July, and is expected to last just under four hours.

In order of introduction, Greece will be the first nation introduced, followed by the Refugee Olympic Team, France, and athletes from Russia and Belarus competing as individuals due to their countries’ role in the war in Ukraine.

The Nigeria Olympics Committee Secretary General, Tunji Popoola, predicts a podium finish for the Super Falcons at the 2024 Olympic Games, marking their return to the Olympics since the 2008 edition in Beijing.

“We have a strong football team; I will tip them for a medal. Also, we should expect medals in athletics, weightlifting, and wrestling. We will surprise Nigerians with a bag of medals,” Popoola declared.

The Olympic torch is already lit

The nine-time African champions, Super Falcons are drawn in a tough group with Spain, Japan, and Brazil.
