Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State expressed angst at Simon Ekpa, the former US army officer and self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafran Government in Exile (BGIE).
In the harshest criticism so far against the Finland-based agitator, Mbah called him a “scoundrel”, “megalomaniac, scammer, and common criminal” deserving of “repatriation to Nigeria to answer to his acts of murder and terrorism in the South East region.”
The governor was addressing the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence during an oversight visit to the state to discuss pressing security issues.
During the meeting, Governor Mbah reiterated his administration’s decisive stance against the illegal sit-at-home orders previously enforced by non-state actors. The governor lamented that these orders urgently need to be addressed as they are negatively impacting the state’s psychological and economic well-being.
Governor Mbah expressed his deep concern over individuals masquerading as freedom agitators who continue to undermine the state’s security and pose a significant threat to the livelihoods of its people. He singled out Mr. Ekpa in particular, accusing him of exploiting the emotions and sufferings of the Igbo people for personal gain while enjoying the safety and rule of law abroad.
“This individual pretends to fight for the Igbo’s interests but knows nothing about our people or their well-being. His actions create a siege atmosphere and undermine our hard work and entrepreneurship values,” Mbah stated. He called on the citizens of Enugu to disregard the agitator’s threats and assured them of the state’s commitment to security with the support of security agencies.
Governor Mbah also urged the House of Representatives to facilitate the agitator’s repatriation to Nigeria to face justice for his alleged acts of murder and terrorism in the South East. “It is surprising that the Finnish Government allows this criminal to reside peacefully while perpetrating terrorism here. We must act together to stop this tragedy,” he emphasized.
The governor has been praised for his administration’s commitment to security in the state and for fostering rapid economic development. He says he rejects any actions threatening the state’s peace and stability.
