A suspected serial killer, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, has confessed to murdering 42 women over the past two years in Kenya.
The 33-year-old was arrested in Soweto, east of Nairobi, after allegedly luring, killing, and disposing of 42 female bodies at a dumping site. Only nine have been recovered so far. The suspect’s first victim was his wife, whom he strangled to death before dismembering her body and disposing of it at the site.
Khalusha’s arrest followed forensic analysis of a mobile phone belonging to one of the victims, Josphine Mulongo Owino, where mobile money transactions conducted on the day she went missing pointed to the suspect.
The first six bodies were discovered in Nairobi’s Mukuru kwa Njenga neighborhood on Friday. The bodies were found in an abandoned quarry filled with water and used as a dump site. The suspect lived a short walk from the dumpsite, raising questions about how he evaded detection for two years.
Acting police Inspector General Douglas Kanja said of Khalusha, “We are dealing with a serial killer, a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for life,” but gave no details as to the motives of Khalusha in carrying out the heinous acts and under what circumstances he was able to take the female victims to his abode.
It also needs to be clarified if Khalusha worked alone or was part of a larger syndicate.
