Tinubu Meets with Union Leaders Over Minimum Wage Dispute in Abuja

The Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu, met with labour union leaders today in Abuja. The meeting was an informal discussion regarding the country’s new minimum wage issue, and not a negotiation.

The Federal Government is optimistic that the impasse over the minimum wage will be resolved by next week, according to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Malagi.

After the meeting, Nigeria Labour Congress President Joe Ajero told journalists that the government’s offer of N62,000 and the worker’s demand of N250,000 as the new minimum wage was still on the negotiating table.

Ajero said their meeting with the president focused mainly on helping the president understand the general economic difficulties faced by workers and other Nigerians and the economic arguments put forward by the labor movement.

Nigerians are facing both food shortages and food price inflation at the same time.
