The Netherlands cruised into the Euros quarterfinal round after a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Romania.
Two goals were made by Donyell Malen, who came off the bench to push the Dutch into advancing, and another was made by Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, who has recently been in a hot run of form.
Gakpo gave the Netherlands the lead in the 20th minute after he ran down the lefthand and cut in to place a well-struck shot into the net, extending his Euros goal tally to three.
His strike also sees him join an elite group of two fellow Dutchmen who scored three goals at the 2022 World Cup and three so far at EURO 2024: Johnny Rep (1974 & 1978 World Cups) and Dennis Bergkamp (Euro 1992, World Cups in 1994 & 1998).

The Netherlands also had a penalty shout ruled out after a supposed handball occurred when the score was 1-0.
Nevertheless, Malen made it 2-0 after a beautiful touchline play from Gakpo and his pass, which was converted from Malen’s point-blank range.
He soon added another in the 93rd minute of added time after a surging run from his half, which ended into a fizzling strike across the surface to give the Netherlands a comfortable victory over Romania.

This victory is also memorable for the Dutch, as this is the first time they have ever qualified from the knockout round of a European Championship.
The Netherlands’ next match is against Turkey after they advanced by knocking Austria out of the tournament.
