Enugu Rangers International have won the Nigeria Premier Football League for the 2023/2024 season.
The Flying Antelopes topped the NPFL after defeating Bendel Insurance 2-0 in Enugu on Sunday, while their closest competitors, Remo Stars and Enyimba United, suffered 2-1 losses to Sunshine Stars and Sporting Lagos.
Rangers is now league champions of Nigeria for the eighth time, just one more title behind the record holder, Enyimba United, with nine wins.
Augustine Kenechukwu gave Rangers the lead on Sunday with a goal in the 33rd minute. In the 65th minute in the second half, Chidiebere Nwobodo completed the victory.
On the other hand, Enyimba lost 2-1 to Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, while Remo Stars lost 2-1 to Sunshine Stars in Akure, whose last league triumph came in 2016.
In all Rangers played 37 matches, won 20, drew 7, lost 10, and scored 54 goals.
The 35th league match between Rangers and Enyimba in Enugu on June 9 ended in a fiasco. The match was eventually awarded to Rangers, giving them an boost to the top.
