Presidency Disowns Reported N105,000 Minimum Wage Proposal

The reports circulating that Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, had suggested N105,000 for the new minimum wage pattern have been refuted by the Presidency.

Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special advisor on information and strategy, revealed this on Thursday on his X account.

The Honorable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage,” the presidential aide stated.

The opposing narrative that is circulating is untrue.

Mr. Onanuga did not give the exact figure the minister proposed.

Edun had earlier in the day given President Bola Tinubu the template in the company of Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and National Planning.

Whatever is the government proposed figure, it will hold it close to its chest as it re-enters negotiations with the labour unions.

Nigerians are keen to have the minimum wage and for a living wage even for the poorest of the poor.
