At the Jamaican Athletics Invitational on Sunday, Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan re-established herself as the world’s undisputed queen of the 100m hurdles.

She outpaced her closest rival Danielle Williams of Jamaica in front of her cheering home crowd, with a new world-fastest record time.

Tobi clinched victory in the 100m hurdles event with an astounding time of 12.40 secs amidst a disappointed crowd rooting for Danielle.

The event was held in Kingston. Local weather conditions at +0.9m/s wind speed were just about right, propelling the 26-year-old Nigerian to a commanding win over a highly competitive field of athletes.

Tobi’s impressive run not only secured her the top spot in Sunday’s game but she did it in a blazing 2024 World Record time of 12.40 secs, leaving reigning World Champion Danielle trailing behind at 12.46 secs. Christina Clemons from the United States claimed third place with a time of 12.54 secs.

This victory serves notice of where Amusan is headed in the major upcoming competitions, including the 2024 Olympics Games in Paris later this year.

Amusan has been in exceptional form since this year, with an African record of 12.58 seconds in Doha last month, following her remarkable world record-breaking speed of 12.12 secs at the previous year’s World Championships in Oregon, United States.

With this performance in Jamaica, Amusan has issued a strong warning to her competitors to train harder or stay clear of the tracks. Her flawless technique, remarkable speed, and disarming confidence with the ever charming smile on her face, leave spectators in awe of this graceful female machine.

Amusan lives in the United States although she’s from Ijebu Ode in Ogun State, Nigeria. In May 2023, she earned her Master of Arts degree in Leadership Studies and Sports Management from the University of Texas at El Paso, United States.
