Obidient’s Launch A New Drink “Bitter Obi” That Cures Some Ailments

A Nigerian political pressure group known as the Obidient’s have launched a new drink they tag “Bitter Obi” or “Dr Obi Herbal Cleanser“.

It’s doubtful if the drinks exists or is an online innuendo, but they’re using it to tout the “Agbadorians” – supporters of President Bola Tinubu.

Agbado means corn in Yoruba and is a reference to Mr Tinubu before his election, calling on the past government to recruit 50 million Nigerians into the security forces to fight insecurity and feed them with agbado.

The Obidient’s are young Nigerians who claim they cut across Nigeria’s political spectrum but who subscribe to the political and economic philosophy of Mr Peter Obi. He ran for the presidency for the first time in 2023 under the Labour Party, garnering over 6 million votes and won in some major cities like Lagos and Abuja as well as several states.

His supporters still insist he won the election but was denied by what they call the “establishment of criminality”.

The group’s slogan is “A new Nigeria is POssible”, drawn from their underlying vision of a new “Nigeria where unity empowers, diversity thrives, and belief in our collective potential guides our progress. Together, we can build a future where every Nigerian citizen’s dream brightens the path to our collective greatness”, according to theobidientmovement.org.

Obi to them represents non-corruption, due process and a pro-poor liberal, rules-based, youths-inspired governance structure. The group has remained active since the election, and ruthlessly defend their principal both in online and offline engagements, and often oppose the current government for its tough economic policies.

The Tinubu’s economic record, harsh as many see it, has helped to sustain the fire of the Obidients who keep insisting their principal would have done a better job of dismantling the corrupt system and enshrine a more enduring governance system that will fundamentally revamp the economy and pull many out of poverty.

Our correspondents are still roving the market to see if they can find the product, Bitter Obi drinks, which promise to deal with several ailments including RonuARUS and ShegeARUS – whatever those symptoms feel like.
