The duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho played crucial roles in Leicester City‘s triumphant return to the English Premier League after their relegation to the Championship league last season.

Leicester City secured their promotion back to the top league with a commanding 3-0 victory over Preston on Monday, April 29. Then, on Saturday, May 4, amidst cheers, the Leicester squad was presented with the Championship trophy, despite a 2-0 loss to Blackburn at the King Power Stadium. They’d already topped the Championship table.

The Nigerian internationals, Ndidi and Iheanacho, were visibly joyful, celebrating with their families about the successful comeback of their club to the Premier League.

Fans of Leicester City flooded the streets to celebrate the club’s promotion, forming a lively open-top bus parade. The jubilant atmosphere was infectious as the Foxes reclaimed their position in the top league.

Ahead of the parade, crowds congregated near the Clock Tower, eagerly awaiting the procession through the city center. Club members waved at the loyal fans who stood by the team through the difficult times of relegation.

The “Straight Back Up” festivities featured big screens and music, reminiscent of previous parades commemorating the club’s return to the Premier League in 2014 and their historic Premier League title win in 2016.

Leicester City’s was not the only team to make it back to the Premiers. Ipswich club did as well. Each year, two top teams at the First Division Championship league move over to the Premiers while the last two Premiers are relegated to the Championship League.

Matt Elliott, a former Leicester City player, expressed no surprise at the overwhelming turnout for the parade.

It’s a one-club city, and the fans’ passion for the club is palpable,” he remarked. “Today is a day of sheer joy, excitement, and appreciation for the remarkable achievements of the team this season.
