At least eight (8) commissioners in the cabinet of Gov. Siminalayi Fubara have resigned their post in the last 24 hours in the unfolding political drama of Rivers State.

Attorney-General (AG) of the state, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, yesterday threw in the towel although oddly his resignation letter was dated November 14, 2023. Adangor, who also served in the same capacity under Wike, said his resignation was for “personal principles” but it is thought he could no longer toss his loyalty between his former and current bosses.

Commissioner for Special Projects, Emeka Woke, also announced his decision to quit.

Next, Commissioner for Works, George-Kelly Alabo, resigned as is his counterpart from the Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Inime Chinwenwo-Aguma. Both endered their resignation letters on Thursday.

Following strangely was Commissioner of Finance, Isaac Kamalu who’s ministry drafted the state budget presented to the 4-man wing of the House of Assembly, and quickly passed into law.

Friday morning, was turn of Dr. Gift O. Worlu, commissioner for Housing.

Two Houses Of Assembly For One State

As the clock ticks and realignment of political forces takes shape, it is uncertain how deep into the government is ex-governor Nyesom Wike’s shadow cast.

In the meantime, the state appears to have two de facto legislative houses, one loyal to Gov. Fubara and the other to Nyesom Wike.

Despite their seat declared vacant, the Amaewhule faction yesterday, through a motion, adopted and converted the auditorium of the House of Assembly Quarters as its hallowed chamber after the demolition of the Assembly complex on Wednesday, while the Edison Ehie faction is seating inside the Rivers State government house.
