In a tragic situation Sunday night, a Nigerian Air Force jet have reportedly bombed innocent villagers of Tudun Biri, a community within Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
At least 30 persons are said to have been killed, and eyewitnesses say the figure could rise.
The circumstances for the attack is very murky as the Air Force itself have kept mum so far.
The villagers said to number about 120, gathered together to celebrate Maulud – the birth of the Islamic founder, Prophet Mohammed.
However Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan said the government was aware of the incident but could offer no explanation. He promised a full press conference to address the issue after an emergency security meeting.
There are gruesome pictures available online depicting dead bodies, victims of the bombing, but these have not been independently verified.
Incidents such as this unfortunately are not uncommon in Nigeria.
In 2020, a military jet deployed to repel an attack by Boko Haram dropped a bomb that landed in a compound where civilians were having child christening.
A fighter jet also on a mission against Boko Haram extremists in April 2021 mistakenly bombed men of the Nigerian Army in Borno, killing over 20 officers.
In July 2022, a NAF jet fighter struck Kunkuna village in the Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing scores of residents.
On January 24 this year, an aerial attack killed 39 civilians and injured at least 6 others during Operation Whirl Stroke around Nasarawa State.
There has not been full public disclosure for these sad developments.
