Nigeria’s Hilda Baci Dethroned As Guinness World Record Longest Cooking Marathon Chef

Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, known as Hilda Baci, has been dethroned as the Guinness World Record title holder for the longest cooking marathon.

The Guinness World Records (GWR) confirmed this in a statement it posted on its official website.

In a tweet, GWR announced Alan Fisher, an Irish who owns and is the chef in a restaurant in Japan as the new record holder.

Alan Fisher not only shattered the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) with an impressive time of 119 hours and 57 minutes but also secured the title for the longest baking marathon (individual) by clocking 47 hours and 21 minutes.

“I’m proud to be from Ireland and I love sharing our culture. Food is my connection to home”. – Alan Fisher

His achievements chaffed the previous record held by 26 years old Hilda Baci who cooked a little over 100 hours.

Hilda Baci had claimed the Guinness World Record in June although her cooking marathon began on Thursday, May 11 through Monday, May 15, during which time she cooked over 92 hours, breaking previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes, established by Lata Tondon of India in 2019.

GWR in the statement said, “Alan Fisher “claimed the longest cooking marathon (individual) after clocking in a time of 119 hours 57 minutes. That is more than 24 hours longer than the previous record held by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci.

Alan then claimed the longest baking marathon (individual), with a time of 47 hours 21 minutes. The previous record holder was Wendy Sandner (USA) with a time of 31 hours 16 minutes.

What’s even more impressive is that Alan took on both attempts back to back, meaning he was at work in the kitchen for over 160 hours with just over a day of rest in between!

With Alan’s new record, the ante has just been upped for many aspiring Nigerians chefs who rushed to beat Baci’s record soon after her feat in June.
