Undisclosed number of Nigerian military and police security operatives were reportedly killed in Imo State on Tuesday morning by unknown assailants.
The security men said to be on a patrol in a convoy of two pick-up vehicles were ambushed and attacked at Umualumaku community of Ehime Mbano.
The exact number of deceased has not been made public, but in a video circulating online and purportedly that of this gory incident showed at least four dead bodies together with flaming security vehicles.
It is believed the security men could be members of Search and Flush Team, a state security formation comprising military and policemen.
Online video purportedly depicting the sceen of the attack. Some media reports put the number of victims at eight. No official confirmation of the video or the incident has been made by state or federal authorities.
Police has not revealed the identity of the persons, the number of victims or the motive behind the attack.
Imo State has been a flashpoint of conflict between state forces and hoodlums. The governor, Hope Uzodinma has repeatedly blamed his political rivals for the insecurity in the state.
Imo is due for a gubernatorial election in November in which the governor is up against stiff challenges from rival parties for his re-election.
