Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Sunday hosted Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara at his Port Harcourt residence.
The meeting was the first between the two allies since Fubara announced he would not seek re-election in 2027.
Wike was joined by APC governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda and Magnus Abe, chairman of the Rainbow Coalition reconciliation committee. Fubara attended with former APC Deputy National Chairman Sam Jaja.
The relationship between Wike and Fubara collapsed soon after Fubara assumed office in 2023.
Lawmakers loyal to Wike initiated impeachment proceedings against Fubara, deepening the crisis.
The turmoil eventually led President Bola Tinubu to declare a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State.
Wike later declared the feud over, saying Fubara had agreed to return to the political family that supported his emergence.
A reconciliation committee led by Magnus Abe was formed to engage Fubara and his supporters.
Fubara subsequently joined the APC and aligned with the Wike-backed Rainbow Coalition
Fubara has now endorsed Kingsley Chinda as his preferred successor in the 2027 governorship election.
This endorsement signals his full support for the coalition and its candidates.
The reconciliation between Wike and Fubara could reshape Rivers State politics ahead of 2027.
Their renewed alliance may consolidate APC’s influence in the state and reduce tensions that have polarised the state politically and almost crippled governance.
