Bashir El‑Rufai has spoken about his father’s attitude during detention, describing former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El‑Rufai as calm, resilient, and humorous despite the circumstances.
Posting on his official X account on Wednesday, Bashir said his father’s uplifting spirit surprised him each time he visited.
Bashir explained that his father’s resilience made him realise that those outside detention often worry more than the detainees themselves.
“When I visit my father, I always leave truly amazed by how it is we on the outside that are bothered. His resilience, uplifting spirit and his usual banter hits in a profound way,” he wrote.
He added that Nasir El‑Rufai maintained his usual lively nature and sense of humour during their meetings.
Sacrifice and Conviction
Bashir said he asked his father whether the sacrifice that led to his detention was worth it. According to him, El‑Rufai responded positively without hesitation.
“I asked whether he still believes this sacrifice was worth it. Without hesitation, he said yes,” Bashir revealed.
The younger El‑Rufai said his father’s conviction strengthened his belief that detainees sometimes bear their situation with greater composure than those outside.
