Sixty‑seven Nigerians have returned home from South Africa, each receiving ₦50,000 in financial support from a group of private individuals who facilitated their repatriation.
The returnees arrived at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, aboard a South African Airways flight on Wednesday night.
The initiative was coordinated by businessman and philanthropist Chief Charles Mba, alongside other private supporters. Their intervention has now assisted 150 Nigerians in returning from South Africa, following an earlier batch of 83.
Speaking to the returnees, Chief Mba urged them to embrace patriotism and comply with regulations guiding their activities in Nigeria.
“Your experience in South Africa should not diminish your hopes for the future, particularly for the children among you,” he said.
He assured them that challenges abroad should not prevent them from rebuilding their lives and pursuing opportunities at home.
The group’s coordinator, Mr. Ikem Ume‑Ezeoke, praised previous efforts by the federal government to facilitate the return of Nigerians from abroad.
He said Nigeria remained a country with significant opportunities that could be harnessed by the returnees as they settle back home.
The philanthropic group pledged continued support for Nigerians facing hardship abroad, stressing that reintegration and opportunity at home are vital for national development.
