Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has lost her husband, Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun, at the age of 62.
His family announced his death in a statement on Thursday. The family said the businessman died on Wednesday in Lagos State.
The statement was titled “Announcement of the passing of Mr Anthony Adeniyi Niyi Adeosun.”
“It is with profound sorrow, yet in total submission to the will of Almighty God, that the Adeosun family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, and brother, Mr Anthony Adeniyi Niyi Adeosun,” it read.
The family described Adeosun as a respected businessman, devoted Christian and a man who impacted many lives.
They said his life was defined by “hard work, service to God, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.”
He was known for integrity, generosity and strong faith.
Kemi Adeosun served as Nigeria’s Finance Minister from 2015 to 2018 under President Muhammadu Buhari. She resigned after a certificate controversy. She is a chartered accountant and former investment banker with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Her husband, Niyi Adeosun, was a businessman with interests in investment and finance. He kept a low public profile but was active in church and community work.
The family said funeral arrangements will be announced later.
He is survived by his wife, Kemi, his children and siblings, including Adewale Adeosun, founder of Kuramo Capital.
“We thank all who have reached out with prayers, condolences, and support. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the Lord,” the statement added.
