President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya (SAN), has vowed to work with members and stakeholders of the Bar to heal divisions within the legal profession.

She made the pledge ahead of her inauguration in August 2026, promising to restore unity in the association.

Badejo-Okusanya gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen after paying a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja on Tuesday.

She disclosed that she had commenced consultations with members and stakeholders across the association and promised to do everything possible to address grievances and strengthen the unity of the NBA.

“My swearing-in is not until the end of August. In the meantime, I continue to reach out to members, to stakeholders, so that we can work together to improve things, to heal the hurt anyone has, and to just continue to ensure that the NBA continues to fulfill its role to society,” she said.

Badejo-Okusanya assured members and the public that her administration would be committed to fostering reconciliation and institutional stability.

“Everything that needs to be done, I can assure members and the public that I will do. We’ll make sure that we unite ourselves. We’ll make sure that we put our house in order,” she stated.

Tinubu Meeting, E-Voting Talk and Electoral Upgrades

Commenting on her meeting with President Tinubu, the NBA president-elect said the President congratulated her on her election victory.

Both of them discussed the challenges associated with electronic voting and the deployment of technology in electoral processes.

According to her, the discussions also focused on ways of strengthening the NBA’s electoral processes through continuous improvements.

“He congratulated me on the victory. We talked about the challenges of electronic voting and technology, and we spoke about the ways in which we can continue to improve on our processes. It was very encouraging,” she said.

The NBA recently concluded its own internal elections, which saw Badejo-Okusanya emerge as president-elect after a competitive race.

The association has faced internal tensions in the past over leadership disputes, electoral controversies and policy directions.

Her focus on reconciliation signals an attempt to calm frayed nerves and present a united front as the body takes on issues such as judicial independence, legal aid and professional standards.
