President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 officials to the boards and leadership of 10 federal agencies and commissions, with former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose named chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The appointments were announced in a statement on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Fayose will lead the REA board alongside Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Makinta, who join as members and non-executive directors, together with the agency’s Director-General, Abba Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors.
Also announced was Major General Junaid Bindawa’s appointment as chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission.
Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State and one-time presidential aspirant, remains one of Nigeria’s most recognisable political figures, and his appointment represents a notable return to public office.
The REA is the federal agency responsible for driving Nigeria’s rural electrification policy, overseeing projects that extend power access to communities not connected to the national grid.
Fresh Faces Across Salary And Fiscal Bodies
Tinubu approved eight additional appointments to the National Salary and Wages Commission.
Former federal lawmaker Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas was named secretary of the commission, while Ogbole Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Barde will serve as commissioners representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna states respectively.
Also appointed as members are Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Tor (Enugu), Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Iyabode (Kogi).
The President also constituted the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, with Abdullahi Saidu as chairman.
Other board members are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Makama, Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Onikola.
The Fiscal Responsibility Commission oversees compliance with Nigeria’s fiscal responsibility laws, which set rules for government borrowing, budgeting and spending.
Reshuffles And Replacements In Other Agencies
Tinubu reassigned Tosin Adeyanju from the National Lottery Trust Fund, where she served as executive secretary, to the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission as secretary.
The President also named Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, and Anthony Godwin as chairman and chief executive of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Julius Oloro, a former council chairman, becomes chief executive of the Kwara-based National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, replacing A.R. Kamal, who died in January.
Shuni Dahiru was appointed executive secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Shu’aibu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund in April.
Gisaor Vincent Iorja was named Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority, replacing Mathias Byuan, who resigned to contest the Benue State governorship election.
Iorja is an economist and legal scholar currently serving as secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission.
The Presidency said all the appointments take immediate effect.
