Marius Borg Høiby, son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette‑Marit, has been sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of rape.
The verdict was delivered today by an Oslo court following a six‑week trial.
The 29‑year‑old was convicted of two counts of rape, assaulting his former girlfriend Nora Haukland, issuing threats, and committing traffic offences.
He was acquitted of two other rape charges but faced 40 charges in total, including drug offences and breaches of restraining orders.
Judge Jon Sverdrup Efjestad handed down the sentence after hearing evidence that included more than 800 messages and self‑made videos of sexual encounters.
One rape was alleged to have taken place in the basement of the Crown Prince’s family home.
Høiby denied the most serious allegations but admitted to some lesser offences. He was not physically present in court for the verdict and instead joined proceedings via video link.
The court heard how his drug addiction worsened in recent years, contributing to a pattern of violence and misconduct. Prosecutors argued that his behaviour showed disregard for the law and for those close to him.

The verdict comes at a difficult time for Crown Princess Mette‑Marit, who is battling pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive lung disease.
Earlier this month, she was placed on Norway’s national lung transplant waiting list after her condition deteriorated.
