Obidients Kick as Okonkwo Renews Attacks on Obi, NDC Leaders

Actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has renewed allegations of corruption within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming that aspirants were pressured to make payments to secure party tickets.

Okonkwo accused the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and some South-East leaders of orchestrating the alleged scheme during the party’s primaries.

The controversy comes amid a legal threat from Obi’s team, which reportedly issued a pre-litigation notice over Okonkwo’s earlier remarks on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

Okonkwo Unleash His Evidence

In a series of posts on his official X account, Okonkwo said he had documentary evidence to support his claims.

He said the evidence included conversations with an aspirant, Obunike Ohaegbu, who contested the Nnewi North/South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency seat.

Okonkwo alleged that Ohaegbu privately accused Obi of coordinating the process, even after later public statements appeared to soften the assertions.

He also referenced internal party communications, saying they showed that additional fees demanded from aspirants were tied to directives from party leadership structures.

Okonkwo called on anti-graft agencies to investigate the matter and ensure that affected aspirants are refunded.

At the time of filing this report, neither Obi nor the NDC leadership had issued a formal response to the latest allegations.

Social Media Row Deepens

The matter has also triggered heated exchanges online.

Okonkwo defended his position against critics, saying political victory depends on “structure and strategy, not emotion.”

Users such as @moyo54 and @etostokia1 challenged his claims and warned him about possible legal consequences.

Others, including @akujiegbe20, @Zim09905110 and @Chima_Obi1234, said Obi would win in 2027, while some accused Okonkwo of making reckless statements.

Okonkwo dismissed the criticism and insisted on his allegations.

The latest row is in continuation of the controversy around the NDC primaries, which have continued to generate public debate and even legal threats.

A lawsuit threat reportedly involving ₦5 billion has also been linked to the matter, deepening the political fallout around the party’s internal crisis.
