Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has been screened by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, for the 2027 presidential race.
The former Anambra State governor said the exercise took place in Abuja on Tuesday, May 19, and lasted more than two and a half hours.
He said the committee went through all his papers, including his degree certificates, NYSC record and age declaration.
“They carefully reviewed all my documents, including my degree certificates, NYSC credentials, and age declarations.”
Obi said he also answered questions on his plans for Nigeria and the kind of leadership he believes the country needs at this point.
After the screening, he said he received the presidential nomination form he had already paid for.
Screening In Abuja
The screening was handled by the NDC’s 17-man committee, led by Sam Egwu, the former governor of Ebonyi State.
Obi praised the panel for what he called a thorough and professional process.
He also thanked the party’s leadership for keeping to a democratic process as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.

According to the draft, Obi was the only person who had bought the NDC presidential form before the original deadline on Monday, May 18.
The party later extended the sale of its presidential forms to Tuesday, May 26.
That extension gives more room for other hopefuls, but Obi’s screening has put him first in the race for the ticket.
Reaction On Social Media
The screening quickly stirred reactions online, with supporters flooding social media with praise and political support.
Femi Obaf called Obi’s vision “distinctive, clear, authentic, original and unambiguous.”
He also said, “A New Nigeria will be possible in our lifetime. Congratulations PO. Let us roll out the biggest campaign ever to convince those not yet on our side. We will prove them wrong like Arsenal.”
Oyewole said, “Our exceptional and unstoppable leader (001). Thank you for your commitment and willingness to serve our country as president.”
He added, “We are confident that your capacity, character, and competence will guide our nation toward renewed greatness. Nigeria will be secure and prosperous under your leadership. Our beloved country will be OK!”
Sleemmedia also backed Obi, saying, “I believe in Mr Georgery Peter Obi’s Mandate!”
He added, “I believe he can give us back our Country.”
Meanwhile, Ayofe dismissed Obi’s chances, saying, “Always looking for free meal….. You’ll never be President of this great country.”
The screening comes as early 2027 contesting begins to take shape, with major political figures already positioning themselves for party tickets and nationwide support.
Obi said the process showed the party was serious about accountability and internal order.
