Arrest Of Miyetti Allah Leader Reignites Political Tension in Taraba

Alhaji Adamu Kurmi, Director General of the Abdullahi Bello Bodejo Campaign Council, has described the arrest of the Miyetti Allah national leader in Jalingo as “politically motivated”.

He accused security agencies of dabbling in partisan politics and warned that such actions could undermine democratic processes.

Kurmi stated this in Jalingo on Saturday, May 9. He alleged that the massive crowd which welcomed Bodejo to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat in Jalingo had unsettled opponents.

According to him, rivals quickly mobilized security agents to silence the aspirant for the Taraba Central Senatorial seat.

“The Campaign Council of Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo for Senate 2027 hereby expresses its sadness over the unfortunate arrest of its Principal by security agencies in Jalingo on Thursday,” the statement read.

Arrest At Blue Nile Hotel

Bodejo and his entourage had earlier paid homage to the APC Secretariat in Jalingo.

Later that evening, at about 6:30 pm, plain‑clothes operatives suspected to be from the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly picked him up at the Blue Nile Hotel. He was driven to an undisclosed location.

The campaign council described the arrest as a violation of his fundamental rights. It said the incident disrupted his planned visits to party leaders and supporters across Taraba Central.

“Opponents of our Principal felt intimidated by the mammoth crowd that received him from Jalingo Airport through the city center,” Kurmi stated.

Campaign Council Response

The council insisted that Bodejo had lawfully purchased and submitted his nomination forms for the 2027 Senate race. It argued that his growing popularity was the real reason behind the arrest.

“The sophisticated and well‑structured procession programme of the aspirant has sent fears through the spines of his opponents,” the statement added.

Kurmi further explained that Bodejo’s May 7 visit was officially communicated to all relevant security agencies, with receipts acknowledged and filed.

He appealed to supporters to remain calm, assuring them that the legal team was working to secure his release. “Our legal team is not relenting in efforts to secure his immediate release to continue with his campaign,” he said.

The arrest of Bodejo, a prominent Fulani leader and national figure in Miyetti Allah, has now become a flashpoint in Taraba politics.
