Political strategist and Group CEO of Global Investment and Trade Company, Baba Yusuf, has warned that, given the way things are going on in Nigeria, bandits could soon infiltrate the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Yusuf said Nigerians in the North are already paying taxes to bandits and even seeking them out for mediation.
He recalled President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Plateau State, where Tinubu promised victims “it will never happen again.” Yusuf noted that terrorists attacked another community the very next day.
According to him, terrorists are killing soldiers, wearing military uniforms, and attending mediation meetings with government officials before returning home without consequences.
He said: “We are there already. And why did I say so? First of all, I mentioned that performance is not measured by events, but by impacts and outcomes.”
Yusuf added: “They are daring the state. They are taunting us. When they kill our soldiers, they wear the uniform of our military and armed forces and go to what is called a mediation arrangement with the government.”
Existential Threat to Democracy
He warned that insecurity has spread beyond the North, reaching Niger, Kwara, Benue, and Plateau. “These people had the audacity to make it happen again the next day,” he said of the Plateau attacks.
Yusuf described how bandits now send notices of attacks, execute them openly, and even overrun brigades in war zones. “They kill our generals, like every other day, our colonels,” he added.
He criticised both ruling and opposition parties for politicising insecurity while Nigerians continue to die daily. “This is an existential issue that we should take seriously across party lines,” he said.
Yusuf concluded: “Very soon, bandits will be in the Senate and the House of Reps, because Nigerians are paying them tax in the north. People are beginning to have confidence in them.”
