Carolina Flores Gómez, a 27‑year‑old former beauty queen, was found dead in her luxury apartment in Mexico City’s upscale Polanco district last Thursday.
Authorities confirmed she died from a gunshot wound to the head. Reports suggest she was killed in front of her baby, raising questions about why her husband delayed alerting police.
Gómez, crowned Miss Teen Universe for Baja California in 2017, was living with her husband Alejandro Gómez and his mother, Erika Maria, at the time of the incident.
Mexican outlet Reporte Indigo reported that investigators consider Erika Maria the prime suspect. Both she and Alejandro were allegedly present during the killing.
According to social media reports from @TendenciaenXHoy, “On April 15, 2026, Carolina appears in pajamas in the living room alongside her mother-in-law, Erika María Herrera (63 years old). After exchanging brief words, they head to the kitchen, where six gunshots are heard. The mother-in-law exits coldly and, upon encountering her son Alejandro (who is holding the 8-month-old baby), tells him: “She made me angry… you are mine and she is not.” The husband remained with the body for a day before reporting it, claiming he was trying to feed the breastfeeding baby. The CDMX Prosecutor’s Office is investigating it as femicide and is preparing an arrest warrant against the mother-in-law, who is on the run. A chilling case of intrafamily violence.”

Building staff said they did not hear gunshots or unusual activity in the secure complex. Forensic teams have since searched the apartment for evidence.
According to The Daily Beast, authorities alleged that both the husband and mother-in-law were inside the apartment when the fatal shot was fired.
No arrests have been made, and no charges have yet been filed in connection with the death.

Carolina Gómez was originally from Ensenada, Baja California. Her death has drawn national attention, with Baja California governor Marina del Pilar Ávila calling for swift justice.
“No crime against a woman should go unpunished. Our thoughts are with her family during this devastating time,” Ávila told reporters.
