The Arewa APC Forum, Kano State chapter, has announced the withdrawal of its support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid.
In a statement dated April 17, 2026, and made public, the group cited failures in governance and unclear leadership direction at the federal level.
“We believe that leadership must inspire confidence, uphold fairness, and demonstrate a sincere commitment to national unity, institutional integrity, and responsible governance,” the forum declared.
The group explained that its decision followed “extensive consultations and careful reflection” on Nigeria’s current political trajectory.
It said it could no longer, “in good conscience,” continue to support the administration.
The statement, signed by Sallah Hakilu Kibiya, chairman of the forum in Kano State, accused the government of alleged nepotism, incompetence, and corruption.
“Where such values are persistently undermined, silence becomes complicity,” the forum added, urging members to align with its new position in future political engagements.
Political Implications in the North
The announcement signals cracks within support structures linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly in the northern region.
With Kano being a strategic political base, the forum’s withdrawal could influence broader alignments ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Northern political groups have often played important roles in deciding national election outcomes in Nigeria. The forum’s position may therefore not be the one the Tinubu political minders will toss aside.
The development also raises questions about internal party cohesion within the ruling APC as the election nears, making true the prediction that the party’s unity could unravel from geopolitical differences and other group conflict interests.
