Tinubu Orders Release of Funds for Nigeria’s Space Assets

President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate release of approved funds for the maintenance of Nigeria’s space assets in line with the National Space Policy and Programme.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima, representing Tinubu, gave the directive on Tuesday during the first meeting of the National Space Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Tinubu said the revised 25-year roadmap for space development must be forwarded to the Federal Executive Council for approval.

“Nigeria will not watch the new frontier unfold from the sidelines. We will participate, we will compete, we will contribute,” he declared.

The president explained that Nigeria’s space ambitions must deliver practical benefits.

“Our programme must serve the farmer in the field, the teacher in the classroom, the entrepreneur in the market, the soldier on duty, and the researcher in the laboratory. This is how a nation turns altitude into advantage,” he said.

Renewed Commitment to Space Development

He noted that investments in the sector are driven by opportunities in outer space, describing it as a frontier for human development, technological advancement, and economic diversification.

The president added that space exploration provides a platform for exploiting natural resources and protecting the environment.

He then directed the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) to enforce regulations and spectrum management for secure utilisation of space assets.

“Employ all legally available means to enforce the space regulation and spectrum management framework for a secure utilisation of space assets and resources over Nigeria,” he said.

Science and Technology Minister Kingsley Udeh described the National Space Council meeting as historic. He said the outcome would strengthen Nigeria’s space industry and ecosystem.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, promising that investments in space will contribute to national development and ensure accountability in the use of resources.
