The Lagos State Government has accelerated its “Project Zero” and EKOEXCEL initiatives to eliminate learning poverty across its 1,016 public primary schools.
Speaking on the 2026 education roadmap, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, stated that the state is shifting focus from merely building schools to integrating “smart” infrastructure.
Alli-Balogun alleged that traditional teaching methods are no longer sufficient for a 21st-century economy.
Consequently, the state has allocated ₦249 billion in the 2026 “Budget of Shared Prosperity” specifically for education.
This funding targets the training of over 14,000 government teachers and the distribution of updated digital tablets to school leaders to ensure real-time curriculum monitoring.
The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has also adopted a new “SCRIPT” strategic plan.
This framework focuses on Staff Capacity, Technology, and Professionalism.
The Director-General of OEQA, Dr. Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, noted that school inspections are being modernized to include “learner-centered accountability.”
This ensures that private and public schools meet the state’s safety and academic standards.
