The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that all transactions across Nigerian airports will become fully cashless effective February 28, 2026, as part of efforts to align with the Federal Government’s digital payment policy.
In a directive issued by the Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, the authority instructed airport managers, concessionaires and service providers to ensure that all payments within airport premises are processed through approved electronic channels before the deadline.
The transition affects payments for tickets, service charges, parking fees, cargo handling, and other airport-related transactions nationwide.
According to the directive, cash collections will no longer be permitted after the specified date.
FAAN stated that the move is designed to improve operational efficiency, enhance transparency in revenue collection, and strengthen accountability within the aviation sector. The authority also indicated that necessary infrastructure and payment platforms are being deployed to support the transition.
Airport operators and business outlets within airport terminals have been advised to upgrade their systems to accommodate digital payment methods, including point-of-sale terminals and online transfer platforms.
The cashless transition forms part of broader national efforts to modernise public service operations and reduce dependence on physical cash transactions.
With the February 28 deadline approaching, stakeholders in the aviation industry are expected to complete compliance measures to ensure uninterrupted services across airports in Nigeria.
