Global technology brand HONOR has intensified competition in Nigeria’s smartphone industry with the launch of its artificial intelligence-powered HONOR X9d, unveiling ambitious plans to expand its footprint in Africa’s largest consumer market.
The unveiling, held in Lagos during the company’s annual dealers’ summit, signals HONOR’s renewed push to capture a larger share of Nigeria’s rapidly evolving mobile ecosystem.
Company executives described Nigeria as a strategic growth hub, citing its youthful population and rising demand for smart, performance-driven devices.
According to Jaco Guan, Managing Director of HONOR West Africa, the new X9d is designed to blend durability, advanced AI features, and premium user experience at a competitive price point.
He stated that the company aims to secure at least five per cent of Nigeria’s smartphone market in 2026.

The device is equipped with enhanced AI photography capabilities, intelligent battery optimization, and a high-resolution display engineered for immersive viewing.
Industry analysts say these features reflect a broader shift in the mobile sector, where artificial intelligence is becoming central to performance, security, and user personalization.
Nigeria’s smartphone market has grown increasingly competitive, with global brands racing to attract young professionals, students, content creators, and entrepreneurs who rely heavily on mobile technology for work and social engagement.
The integration of AI into everyday smartphone functions — from photo editing to power management and voice commands — is rapidly becoming a key selling point.

Technology analysts believe HONOR’s entry could reshape competition within the mid-to-upper smartphone segment, potentially prompting rival brands to accelerate innovation and pricing strategies.
With the X9d now available across retail outlets nationwide, the battle for dominance in Nigeria’s AI-enabled smartphone space appears set to intensify throughout 2026.
For industry watchers, the message is clear: artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic add-on — it is becoming the heart of Nigeria’s next mobile revolution.
