The popular spare parts hub in Mushin was shut on Sunday by operatives of the Lagos State taskforce, following reports of repeated environmental infractions along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road stretch of the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the closure on X, writing: “Lagos State government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions; indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway and illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos.”
The sealing forms part of Lagos State’s renewed enforcement drive to ensure compliance with environmental laws and discourage illegal street trading.
Ladipo Market had similarly been closed like this in the past.
In 2023, the government reopened the market after operators met sanitation and waste management standards.
At the time, Kadiri Folashade, Public Affairs Director at the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, stressed that all markets must adhere strictly to waste management best practices in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus agenda.
Sunday’s action signals a renewed clampdown, highlighting the state’s zero-tolerance approach toward environmental negligence and unsafe trading practices.
