Gunmen Kill Ogidi Community Leader and One Other in Anambra

Unidentified gunmen, suspected to be cultists, have killed the President-General of Ogidi community, Sir Ikwuka Okoye, popularly known as Anumili, along with one other person in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The attack occurred on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the School Field, Ogidi, and is believed to be a revenge strike by members of a rival cult group following the recent capture and killing of their leader by local security operatives.

Eyewitnesses reported that heavily armed men stormed the community field in the evening.

An anonymous source reportedly said: “Daredevil gunmen invaded our community last night. By the time they were done, the town’s President-General, Sir Ikwuka Okoye, and another victim, who happened to be his relative, lay dead on the floor.”

The second victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed, but reports suggest he was a close relation of Okoye.

Police Confirmation

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

“The Anambra State Police Command regrets the murder of the President-General of the Ogidi community and one other person. The incident, which occurred on the evening of February 6, 2026, at the School Field, Ogidi, is allegedly linked to the recent capture and killing of a known notorious cultist within the community,” Ikenga stated.

He added that police operatives swiftly took over the scene and commenced investigations, working with eyewitness accounts and intelligence to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

Ikenga assured residents that efforts are being intensified to bring those responsible to justice.

“Residents are urged to remain calm and cooperate with the police as investigations continue. Further developments will be communicated in due course,” he said.

Tlence. Police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga said operatives have taken over the scene and launched investigations, assuring residents that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice. The killing has raised fresh concerns about cult clashes and insecurity in Anambra State.
