US Condemn Kwara Killings, Urge Justice for Victims

The United States has condemned the recent deadly attack on communities in Kwara State, describing the incident as “horrific” and expressing sympathy with the families of the victims.

In a statement issued through the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, Washington said it was deeply troubled by reports of the killings in parts of Kaiama Local Government Area, where gunmen invaded several villages and left many residents dead.

The mission said the violence underscored the urgent need to protect civilians and hold perpetrators accountable.

The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara State and extends our condolences to the families of the victims,” the statement said.

It added that the U.S. stands with Nigeria in efforts to restore peace and prevent further loss of lives.

The attack, which occurred earlier this week, reportedly targeted rural communities, forcing many residents to flee their homes in fear. Security forces have been deployed to the affected areas to stabilize the situation and track down those responsible.

The U.S. Mission also welcomed the response of the Nigerian government, noting that decisive action by security agencies is crucial in preventing similar incidents.

It stressed the importance of collaboration between federal and state authorities, as well as community leaders, to address the root causes of such violence.

Military Build Up in Affected Areas

Nigerian officials had earlier announced increased security operations in the area, including the deployment of additional troops and intelligence personnel.

The Kwara State Government also assured residents that normalcy would be restored and urged them to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information.

Residents of the affected communities are still counting their losses, with many describing the attack as one of the worst in recent times.

Community leaders have called for sustained security presence to enable displaced persons to return safely to their homes.

The U.S. condemnation adds to growing international spotlight on security challenges in parts of Nigeria.

As investigations continue, the government has appealed for calm and pledged that those behind the killings will be brought to justice.
