The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced an extension of the application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session, shifting the closing date from January 31, 2026, to February 27, 2026.
The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement signed by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications.
He explained that the decision was taken to give prospective applicants additional time to complete and submit their applications.
According to NELFUND, the extension is aimed at ensuring that no eligible Nigerian student is excluded from the programme due to timing constraints or challenges encountered during the application process.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, said the move reflects the organisation’s commitment to inclusivity and equitable access to education financing.
“This extension reflects our commitment to inclusivity and access. We understand that some applicants may require additional time to complete their submissions, and this decision ensures that every eligible Nigerian student has a fair opportunity to benefit from the Fund,” Sawyerr stated.
Advisory to Applicants
NELFUND encouraged all prospective applicants who have yet to apply or who have not completed their applications to take advantage of the extended deadline and ensure that all required information is submitted on or before February 27, 2026.
The Fund added that further information and updates would continue to be shared through its official communication channels.
Applicants and members of the public seeking clarification were advised to contact NELFUND via email at info@nelf.gov.ng or through its verified social media platforms.
The extension comes as NELFUND continues to reconcile outstanding upkeep payments and strengthen transparency measures, including the establishment of an anti-corruption unit to boost accountability.
