APC Welcomes Governor Caleb Mutfwang in Historic Jos Rally

The Polo Field in Jos was filled to capacity on Tuesday as leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) formally welcomed Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the party.

Mutfwang, who officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on December 29, 2025, joined the APC on January 2, 2026, in what many described as a landmark political realignment in Plateau State.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma were among the dignitaries expected at the grand reception.

As early as 7 a.m., colourful groups, dance troupes, and supporters from across Plateau State thronged the venue, underscoring the significance of the event.

Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Idris Wase, described the Governor’s decision as “a defining moment that signals unity, stability, and a renewed commitment to people-centred governance.”

Wase, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, said the reception had already ignited excitement across Plateau and beyond, drawing attention from political stakeholders, development partners, and the public.

According to Wase, Plateau State is “witnessing a profound political realignment, one that transcends party lines and reflects a growing consensus that governance must be anchored on collaboration, inclusiveness, and collective responsibility.”

He noted that the shift is creating a conducive atmosphere for accelerated infrastructure, economic expansion, enhanced security, and increased social investment across both urban and rural communities.

Wase praised Governor Mutfwang as “a visionary, principled, and people-oriented leader whose calm disposition and consultative leadership style have earned him respect across political divides.”

Renewed Hope Agenda

Explaining the Governor’s move, Wase said Mutfwang’s resignation from the PDP was driven by prevailing realities and his commitment to clarity of purpose and effective service delivery.

“Barely days later, on January 2, 2026, he aligned with Progressive Governors under the APC platform, a move widely interpreted as a strategic step to position Plateau State within a broader national framework capable of attracting large-scale development initiatives,” Wase stated.

He added that the Governor has consistently maintained that “the time is now for the Renewed Hope Agenda to take firm root in the State.”

Pathways for Unity and Prosperity

Wase emphasized that Mutfwang’s entry into the APC represents the creation of a broad and unifying political platform that places the people’s interests above partisan considerations.

He said the alignment would bridge long-standing political and identity divides while opening new pathways for improved road networks, job creation, strengthened security, and better living standards.

The committee expressed optimism that the new political direction under Mutfwang’s leadership would foster peace, inclusiveness, cooperation, and sustainable development, while attracting public and private investments to Plateau State.

It appealed to residents to extend their renowned hospitality to visitors and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the event.

“This grand reception belongs to all Plateau people,” the committee declared, expressing confidence that the event would mark the beginning of a new chapter of unity, development, and shared prosperity for the state.
