Nigeria is positioning itself as a global frontrunner in the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly in education, work, and entrepreneurship, according to a new report released by Google and Ipsos.
The study, titled “Our Life with AI: Helpfulness in the Hands of More People”, reveals that Nigerians are embracing AI tools at an exceptional rate and remain highly optimistic about the technology’s future.
According to the report, 88 per cent of Nigerian adults have used an AI chatbot—an 18-point increase from 2024 and significantly higher than the global average of 62 per cent.
Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager for West Africa, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, said: “It is inspiring to see how Nigerians are creatively and purposefully using AI to unlock opportunities for learning, growth, and economic empowerment. This report goes beyond high adoption rates; it tells the story of a nation actively shaping its future with technology.”
AI in Education and Work
The report highlights AI’s growing role in education and professional development:
- 93 per cent of Nigerian users rely on AI to understand complex topics, compared with 74 per cent globally.
- 91 per cent use AI to support their work, demonstrating its integration into professional life.
- 80 per cent of Nigerians use AI to explore new business ventures or career changes—nearly double the global average of 42 per cent.
AI is viewed especially positively in education. 91 per cent of Nigerians believe it enhances learning and access to information, compared with 65 per cent globally.
Furthermore, 95 per cent of respondents believe university students and educators will benefit from AI tools.
Optimism About AI
The report underscores strong optimism among Nigerians regarding AI:
- 80 per cent express excitement about its possibilities, compared with just 20 per cent globally who feel concerned.
- Among frequent AI users, enthusiasm rises to 90 per cent, reflecting confidence in the technology’s transformative potential.
The findings suggest that Nigeria is not only adopting AI rapidly but also shaping its application in ways that drive innovation, learning, and economic empowerment.
With widespread acceptance and optimism, the country is emerging as a leader in AI adoption across Africa and globally.
Experts note that Nigeria’s youthful population, entrepreneurial spirit, and growing digital infrastructure provide fertile ground for AI-driven transformation.
The report positions Nigeria as a nation actively leveraging technology to redefine its future.
