Uganda’s army commander, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has ignited widespread anger online after posting a series of incendiary remarks on social media.
Muhoozi, who is also the son of President Yoweri Museveni, has long been criticized for his outspoken and reckless public persona.
His latest comments, made days after Museveni was declared winner of the 2026 General Election, have drawn condemnation from Ugandans and international observers.
In his posts on X, Muhoozi called for the killing of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, and members of his National Unity Platform (NUP) party.
One of the most shocking remarks read: “Personally, I’m embarrassed by our record. 22 killed in one week is too low. I promise to do better.”
In another, he wrote: “We will kill on sight all NUP so-called ‘Foot Soldiers’. Until Mzee says otherwise. We have killed 22 NUP terrorists since last week. I’m praying the 23rd is Kabobi.”
He later deleted the tweet, but not before CNN correspondent Larry Madowo screenshot the post.
Muhoozi also mocked Bobi Wine with insults: “Defeating a BABOON is expected. The guy’s nose is too big to be human. I’m going to have fun breaking this fool to pieces.”
The remarks came shortly after Museveni was declared winner with 7,946,772 votes against Bobi Wine’s 2,741,238 votes. Bobi Wine has disputed the results, claiming security forces are targeting him.
Online Backlash
The posts quickly went viral, sparking outrage across Uganda and beyond. Many users described Muhoozi’s comments as reckless, dangerous, and unbecoming of a senior military officer.
@Mbithe_Mulinge wrote: “This is one of the most disappointing and poorly thought-out posts I’ve encountered on this platform.”
@paulkkimeli added: “General, with all due respect, no military leader should boast about taking lives or wish death on political opponents. Every Ugandan life matters. Justice belongs in courts, not in public threats.”
Another user, @Politics_analys, warned: “Celebrating killings and publicly calling for another person’s death is not governance, it is criminal incitement. Labeling political opponents as terrorists to justify lethal force erodes the rule of law and places civilians at grave risk.”
Others expressed despair at the state of leadership. @josifundza wrote: “And you think our Continent can prosper with such people? We are cursed.”
Meanwhile, Bobi Wine claimed that security forces raided his Magere residence in central Uganda on the night of January 16.
He said police and military officers stormed the home, cut electricity, and interfered with surveillance cameras while helicopters circled overhead.
The opposition leader stated that he managed to flee during the operation but left his family behind.
