Buhari’s Minister, Nwajiuba, to Contest 2027 Presidency on ADC Platform

Former Minister of State for Education and two-time member of the House of Representatives, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Presidential election under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Nwajiuba, a lawyer and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), said his decision was motivated by the need for a shift towards competence-based leadership in Nigeria.

Speaking on his ambition, Nwajiuba emphasized that Nigeria’s socio-economic and political challenges demand leaders with strong policy knowledge, negotiation skills, and the ability to build grassroots political structures.

“Nigeria’s challenges cannot be solved by slogans or emotional speeches alone. What we need is leadership anchored on clear policies, competence, and the ability to negotiate solutions that work for the people,” he said.

He argued that rhetoric without substance has failed to address the country’s problems over the years, stressing that effective leadership must be rooted in practical solutions.

Experience Across Government

Nwajiuba, who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989, highlighted his years of service across different arms of government as preparation for the presidency.

“My time in the legislature, the executive, and national institutions has prepared me for the task of leading a complex country like Nigeria,” he stated.

He pointed out that his experience as a lawmaker, minister, and head of a key national intervention agency had exposed him to the realities of policy formulation and implementation, giving him a holistic understanding of governance and public finance.

With his declaration, Nwajiuba joins a growing list of politicians positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, which are expected to be one of the most competitive in Nigeria’s history.

Observers note that his entry into the race adds a layer to the complex political and electoral calculations in the party, where other favorites including Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar are expected to contest as well.
