A Qatar Airways aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members was forced to make an emergency landing at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on Friday after developing a technical fault mid-flight.
According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the agency received a distress call through its toll-free emergency lines.
The LASEMA Response Team (LRT), alongside other emergency responders, immediately mobilised to the airport.
“The pilot executed a safe landing on the runway with LASEMA Response Team and other emergency responders standing by on extreme high alert,” the statement read.
All passengers and crew were safely evacuated with no injuries or fatalities reported. While RPG fire damaged troop-carrying vehicles and partially gutted the CCTV control room, responders confirmed that the aircraft itself sustained no major damage.
After checks by the pilot and engineering crew, the plane was moved to the apron for detailed inspection and repairs.
LASEMA confirmed that recovery activities have been completed and the aircraft secured.
The agency praised the multi-agency collaboration that ensured swift and coordinated action, preventing what could have been a major disaster.
