National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said the ruling party is not controlled by governors or any single political figure.
He stated that decisions within the APC are taken at the national level, not by state governors or local power blocs.
Yilwatda made the remarks during an interview on the Sunset programme aired on Jay FM in Jos, Plateau State.
According to him, the party operates strictly through established structures, rather than personal influence or emotional considerations.
“Across the country, nobody can take any section of the party. For anything you are going to do at the state level, it is planned at the national level. It is not planned at the state level. This is the APC structure and that is how we work,” he said.
He stressed that no individual within the party holds overriding authority, regardless of political office.
“We work with structure. We don’t work with sentiments and emotions. Nobody has control over the party, even myself. No local government chairman has control over APC. No governor has control over APC. No senator or individual has control over APC,” Yilwatda added.
The APC chairman further explained that the party deliberately avoided setting up a Board of Trustees to prevent internal power struggles.
According to him, the APC belongs directly to the people, who collectively serve as its custodians.
“That was why APC doesn’t have a board of trustees. APC is owned by the people. People are the trustees of APC,” he said.
He contrasted this structure with other political parties where, he claimed, a few individuals dominate decision-making processes.
“As a party chairman, there is no board of trustees supervising me. I supervise myself,” Yilwatda stated.
