The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has assured Nigerians that there will be no increase in application fees for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) admissions.
In a statement released Monday via its official bulletin, JAMB said candidates will continue to pay ₦3,500 for Computer Based Test (CBT) services and ₦700 as service charge.
“The Board has not increased the cost of its application documents, whether for UTME or Direct Entry, in the last nine years. Rather, the Board has reduced the registration fee for prospective candidates within the nine years of the existence of the current administration,” the statement read.
JAMB explained that the clarification was necessary to guide parents, guardians, and candidates planning ahead for the 2026 exercise. It stressed that the cost implication remains the same as last year.
“It is unlikely to increase the cost of application documents for the 2026 UTME/DE exercise, except where it becomes absolutely expedient to do so in the overriding interest of sustaining the integrity and quality of the examination process,” the Board added.
The agency noted that its position aligns with directives from the President, conveyed through the Minister of Education, that JAMB’s activities must reflect “human‑face policies” and consider prevailing economic realities faced by Nigerian families.
Registration Advisory
Parents and guardians were advised to make early arrangements and ensure timely registration of their wards. JAMB warned that there will be no extension of the registration period once the process begins.
Despite the downward review of fees in recent years, the Board said it has continued to operate efficiently, remitting substantial revenue to the Federal Government.
“This underscores JAMB’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and effective public‑sector financial management. JAMB remains committed to fairness, transparency, and affordability while sustaining global best practices in the conduct of its examinations,” the statement concluded.
