The Akwa Ibom State Government has commenced the full implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy across the state, effective January 1, 2026.
The rollout follows a decision of the State Executive Council and marks a significant step in the administration’s drive for transparency and accountability in public finance.
Governor Umo Bassey Eno formally announced the policy during his statewide New Year broadcast on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
In his address, he reaffirmed his government’s commitment to prudent resource management, stressing that the TSA would serve as a cornerstone of reforms aimed at strengthening fiscal discipline and blocking revenue leakages.
The governor’s announcement was reinforced by a statement issued the same day by the State Commissioner of Information, Aniekan Umanah, which recalled an earlier circular dated December 31, 2025.
The circular, signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), parastatals, and government institutions to comply fully with the TSA framework.
According to the directive, all Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) must be paid directly into the state-designated Treasury Single Account.
Furthermore, all government payments are to be processed strictly through the AkwaRemit Platform, with MDAs required to reconcile TSA transactions on a regular basis.
Objectives of the TSA
The state government has described the TSA as a critical component of its financial management reforms. Officials say the policy is designed to:
- Block revenue leakages and ensure that all funds due to the state are properly accounted for.
- Strengthen fiscal discipline by centralising the management of public finances.
- Improve efficiency in government spending and enhance transparency in financial transactions.
Governor Eno emphasised that the TSA would help build public trust in government by ensuring that resources are channelled into development priorities rather than lost to inefficiency or mismanagement.
The governor tasked all MDAs, parastatals, and institutions to give the directive wide publicity and ensure full compliance as implementation takes effect.
He noted that adherence to the TSA framework was not optional but a binding requirement for all arms of government in Akwa Ibom.
By consolidating state revenues into a single account, the administration hopes to create a more transparent and accountable financial system that will support sustainable development and improve service delivery to citizens.

First of all, this is very good news. At least now, there’s a single account in which all funds are taken into. If only the transactions/how the money is being used is also made public, so the masses see how money is spent.
