Tinubu Approves Oyedepo as New Director of Public Prosecutions

President Bola Tinubu has approved the transfer of service of Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo (SAN) from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the mainstream Federal Civil Service.

Oyedepo will serve as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Federal Ministry of Justice.

A letter dated December 23, signed by Omolabake Mafe on behalf of the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, confirmed that the appointment was made “in the public interest.”

Oyedepo replaces Abubakar Babadoko, who retires on December 31, 2025, after completing eight years as a director.

Oyedepo graduated in Law from the University of Ilorin in 2007 and attended the Nigerian Law School in 2008.

He worked at the EFCC for over 15 years, specialising in complex financial crime prosecutions. He also headed the Monitoring Unit of the anti-graft agency.

A statement from Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information at the State House, noted that Oyedepo was part of the Federal Government’s legal team in the landmark Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) vs Nigeria case.

He was named EFCC’s Outstanding Staff of the Year in 2014 and Best Financial Crimes Prosecutor in 2019.

The presidency expects Oyedepo to reduce reliance on external counsel and ensure greater coherence in government prosecutions.
