The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has listed its achievements under the leadership of Managing Director Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, noting that between 20 July 2022 and 13 September 2023, the national grid recorded 421 consecutive days without collapse.
In a statement, TCN credited this milestone to improved project delivery and the launch of the Nigerian Electricity Grid Maintenance, Expansion, and Rehabilitation Programme (NEGMERP).
The framework has driven digital transformation, including the upgrade of the TCN web portal, NSONG, to enhance transparency and facilitate information exchange critical to market operations.
To improve grid visibility, TCN developed software that provides near real‑time data from generators and substations, enabling controllers at the National Control Centre (NCC) to monitor operations more effectively.
Abdulaziz also signed a contract for a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System/Energy Management System (SCADA/EMS) and communication upgrade, replacing outdated NEPA‑era systems.
Maintenance, Workplace Upgrades, and Organisational Culture
TCN said it is automating and digitising processes in line with corporate goals, implementing proactive maintenance practices and procuring spare parts to ensure reliability.
This approach, the company noted, helps prevent disruptions, enhances system performance, and reinforces its reputation as a dependable transmission service provider.
Beyond technical improvements, management has invested in workplace upgrades to foster productivity and employee well‑being.
Renovation projects and modern facilities have been completed in Lagos (Aja), Kano, Abuja, Ihovbor (Edo), Owerri (Imo), and Uyo (Akwa Ibom), among other locations.
TCN emphasised that a well‑designed and comfortable workspace positively impacts staff performance and supports a compassionate work culture.
Analysts say the combination of grid stability, digitalisation, and other changes in the workplace is helping to modernise Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure and position TCN as a more resilient and efficient operator in the power sector.
