The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to accredit 1,039 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Registrar Prof. Is’haq Oloyede disclosed this during an accreditation tour in Ilorin, noting that 52 examination teams had been deployed across the country to re‑accredit centres or disqualify those failing to meet standards.
He stressed that annual accreditation is mandatory, as past approval does not guarantee continued eligibility. “The fact that you qualified last year does not mean you qualify this year,” Oloyede said.
He added that some centres previously implicated in malpractice had attempted to resurface under new identities, but JAMB had strengthened collaboration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to block such operators.
Directors of failed centres now have their details and National Identification Numbers (NINs) flagged, preventing them from re‑entering the system.
Strict Standards and Anti‑Malpractice Measures
Oloyede revealed that computers used in delisted centres have also been permanently barred from JAMB’s system, even if resold to other centres. Staff and proctors implicated in malpractice have likewise been banned.
He said breaches detected during the exercise had been referred to security agencies, describing them as violations of both JAMB regulations and Nigerian law.
Prof. Veronica Mejabi, Chief Technical Adviser to the accreditation team in Kwara State, explained that centres must meet both hard and soft criteria.
Hard requirements include implementing specified network topology for quick troubleshooting and providing alternative power sources such as inverters and generators.
Soft criteria cover holding areas for candidates, adequate toilet facilities, and installation of CCTV cameras for monitoring.
Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), Vice‑Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, who led one of the validation teams, warned candidates against malpractice.
“If you cheat, you will be caught, and when you are caught, that is the end,” he cautioned.
