Sowore Blasts Nwoko: Abuse of Power, Rights Violations Exposed!

Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has levelled a series of disturbing allegations against Senator Ned Nwoko (APC, Delta North), accusing the billionaire lawmaker of weaponising the police, detaining critics, and engaging in acts that he described as “impunity taken too far.”

The allegations were delivered in a long podcast released on Saturday, November 15, coming at a time when Nwoko’s is entangled in a marital crisis with his young Nollywood actress wife, Regina Daniels.

Regina herself had recently boasted in a recent post that her husband’s “worst enemy” was now working with her — a comment many interpreted as a reference to Sowore.

Nwoko is yet to issue any response, and none of the allegations has been proven in court.

“He Has Ruined Lives Using the Police” — Sowore Alleges a Pattern of Abuse

Sowore said his long-running clash with the senator dates back years and began when he discovered several detainees allegedly linked to disputes in Nwoko’s community.

“This so-called billionaire was throwing people in prison,” he claimed. “We found nine people he had put in prison from his village.”

According to him, the cases followed a similar pattern: land disputes, business disagreements, social media comments, or family disputes reportedly escalating into arrests orchestrated through police connections.

He revisited the 2021 detention of aphrodisiac seller Jaruma, whose public quarrel with the Nwoko family drew wide online attention.

“I fought for her because it made no sense that someone could use wealth and influence to throw people into jail over minor issues,” he said.

He also recounted the arrest of Tiktoker Timothy “Tuma” Gabriel, accused of defaming Regina Daniels. “He was arrested, detained, and by the time we got him out, he had been battered and forced to apologise,” Sowore alleged.

Regina’s Brother, Her Mother, And New Family Tensions

Sowore said he only became involved in the current family crisis after the arrest of Regina Daniels’ brother on allegations of cybercrime. According to him, social media users discouraged him from intervening because the family had previously criticized him.

“It doesn’t matter,” he said. “I don’t choose who to defend. When I heard a senator had pounced on his in-laws, I got involved.”

He further alleged that the senator had plans to arrest Regina Daniels’ mother and release her private communications — all claims yet to be independently verified.

“As an advocate for human rights, I cannot sit back while people use illegally acquired wealth to oppress others,” he said.

Sowore insisted he is not fighting for Regina personally: “I am fighting against abuse of office by a Nigerian senator.”

Claims Of Underage Marriage and Passport Manipulation

One of Sowore’s most serious allegations is regarding Regina Daniels’ age at the time of marriage. He alleged that evidence exists showing she was 17 years old when the relationship began, citing an international passport he said he had seen.

But Nwoko had vigorously denied marrying her wife as a minor, providing a voter’s card which clearly stated that Regina was 21 at the time they married.

Yet, Sowore accused the senator of obtaining the voter’s card for her despite her being underage at the time — to “create an alibi.” He stressed that these matters relate to Nigeria’s Child Rights Act and international conventions against child exploitation.

Cross-Border Trafficking Accusations and International Threats

In his most damning allegation, Sowore accused the senator of involvement in “cross-border prostitution by bringing underage girls from Morocco to Nigeria.”

He described these as “international sex trafficking crimes” and said legal processes would begin in the UK to challenge Nwoko’s professional license as a lawyer.

“His license is our target,” Sowore declared. “He should not be allowed to practice law in Nigeria or the UK.”

No evidence was provided publicly, and no investigative body has confirmed the allegations.

“Criminals Like Ned Will Not Be Senators Forever” — Sowore Vows A Fight

The activist argued that Nwoko’s political influence has shielded him from scrutiny. He linked the senator to controversies around international funds recovery, alleging that huge legal commissions earned through such deals have enabled what he described as “unchecked impunity.”

Sowore also condemned the Nigerian Police, claiming officers routinely visit the senator for favours. “Shame on our police for selling the force for free,” he said.

He insisted the fight is not personal: “It doesn’t matter how much people pay bloggers or try to spin it as husband-and-wife matter. If someone has no right to do what they are doing, we must say it.”

There has not been any response yet from Senator Ned Nwoko, himself a lawyer and serving senator who understand both the political and criminal implications of these allegations.
