The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has been declared the winner of the Saturday, November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, announced the final results in Awka on Sunday, confirming Soludo’s re-election with a total of 422,664 votes. His closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled 99,445 votes, while Sir Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes.
In what INEC described as a peaceful and largely credible exercise, Soludo’s APGA won in all 21 local government areas of the state, marking a historic sweep for the ruling party.
INEC Declares Soludo Winner
Announcing the results at the INEC collation centre, Prof. Omoregie said: “The total number of registered voters was 2,788,864, while accredited voters were 598,229. Valid votes were 584,054, rejected votes 11,244, and total votes cast amounted to 595,298.”
He added that although minor incidents led to the cancellation of about 10,481 votes in parts of Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South, and Onitsha South LGAs, the irregularities did not affect the outcome of the election.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes cast, I hereby declare that Chukwuma Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance is duly elected governor of Anambra State,” Omoregie said.
A Triumph for APGA and a Test for Opposition Parties
The election featured 16 candidates, including former federal lawmaker Nicholas Ukachukwu (APC), businessman Sir Paul Chukwuma (YPP), former minister Dr. George Moghalu (Labour Party), and John Nwosu (ADC).
Despite strong campaigns by opposition parties, APGA consolidated its grip on Anambra — a state that has remained its stronghold since 2006.
Soludo’s decisive victory has been hailed as a testament to his administration’s local credibility and grassroots appeal. Yet, the election is not without several reported flaws as can be seen from some videos.
For the APC, the outcome marks a mixed bag. While its candidate, Ukachukwu, won his polling unit at Umudiala Village, Osumenyi in Nnewi South LGA — polling 108 votes against APGA’s 4 votes — the party struggled to replicate that success statewide.
The Labour Party, once buoyed by Peter Obi’s overwhelming 2023 presidential performance in Anambra, suffered a surprising collapse.
At Obi’s polling unit (019, Agulu Ward 11, Anaocha LGA), the APC candidate secured 73 votes, LP’s Moghalu got 57 votes, while APGA trailed with 38 votes.
“It’s sad that bad governance is fuelling vote buying and selling,” Obi lamented after voting, noting that votes were allegedly traded for between ₦15,000 and ₦30,000 in several parts of the state.

Moghalu, Ukachukwu React as INEC Confirms Results
Labour Party’s George Moghalu, who also lost in his own polling unit at Uruagu Ward 1 in Nnewi North LGA, had earlier accused political actors of vote buying, describing the election as “commercialised and compromised.”
APC’s Ukachukwu, however, congratulated the eventual winner, while insisting that his party had “made remarkable inroads” into Anambra politics.
Meanwhile, INEC praised the conduct of voters and security personnel, noting that its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) performed optimally in most polling units.
Governor Soludo, who previously served as Central Bank Governor, is expected to continue his economic and infrastructural agenda for Anambra, focusing on job creation, local manufacturing, and rural development.
His victory speech, expected later today, will likely set the tone for his second-term priorities.
