Nvidia has made history. The chipmaking giant’s shares surged more than 4% on Wednesday, propelling its market capitalization past $5 trillion — the first time any publicly traded company has reached that mark, according to CNBC.
The leap reflects Nvidia’s remarkable transformation from a niche graphics processor maker to a cornerstone of the global artificial intelligence revolution.
Its stock has already climbed over 50% in 2025, powered by relentless demand for AI processors that now drive everything from data centers to national defense systems.
CEO Jensen Huang announced that Nvidia expects around $500 billion in AI chip orders and plans to build seven supercomputers for the U.S. government.
“We’re building the infrastructure for the next industrial revolution,” he said.
From Gaming to Global Dominance
Nvidia’s journey has been nothing short of meteoric. It crossed the $1 trillion valuation in May 2023, reached $2 trillion in February 2024, and surged past $3 trillion by June the same year.
Now, with $5 trillion in market value, the company stands alone at the summit of global finance.
The firm also revealed a $1 billion strategic investment in Nokia to co-develop 6G network technology — a move analysts see as Nvidia’s attempt to cement its role in the next wave of digital infrastructure.
The rise in Nvidia’s value mirrors a broader rally in AI-related stocks. Apple and Microsoft each surpassed $4 trillion in market capitalization this week, lifting Wall Street to record highs.
Yet, not everyone is celebrating. Experts at the International Monetary Fund and the Bank of England have warned that tech valuations may be overheating.
Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood acknowledged that a “reality check” might be coming but insisted, “If our expectations for AI are correct, we are at the very beginning of a technology revolution.”
